HOW TO SEND YOUR CONTRIBUTION

We are very happy to announce that there are 65 participants, from all the Nordic countries and even further away. Warmest welcome to all of you! We are excited and looking forward to seeing everyone’s contributions which should be arriving soon.

The exhibition is organized by Nordic Bookbinding Society in collaboration with the Icelandic National and University Library and the Icelandic bookbinders JAM-group. Our Icelandic partners now have the biggest work ahead — many thanks to you all in advance!

Important dates

The exhibition will be held in the National and University Library of Iceland Reykjavik starting 23rd of April until 1st of September. Please note that the library will be closed for two weeks’ summer holiday beginning Monday 21st July and will reopen again Tuesday 5th of August.

The vernissage of the exhibition will be held on the 23rd of April, and we are planning to have activities also for the next two days 24th and 25th of April (workshop, show and tell, visits.). Everyone is welcome, whether you have participated in the exhibition or not and are a member or not. The program with all the details is still in the making, and we will inform you when the plans are finalized. Hopefully we will see many of you in Reykjavik!

Exhibitions in many form

Instead of the paper catalogue there will be digital exhibition on a website where photos and hopefully 3D scans of the books will be available. We also plan to show the exhibition on our social media accounts in Facebook and Instagram:
https://www.instagram.com/nordicbookbindingsociety/

We are also planning other ways to engage also those who are not traveling to Iceland. We will have some nice members’ meetings talking about the exhibited books, designs and techniques with some of the binders.

More information coming in the newsletter! The participants of the exhibition will receive information via email.

ADVICE TO REGISTERED PARTICIPANTS:

The name of the exhibition is “Nordic Nature”. The book or piece you select to exhibit is optional.

This means you can choose both the title and the author of the book freely or make the content yourself. We feel “Nordic Nature” is a wonderful subject to give us inspiration and it can be interpreted in many interesting ways. But, if you prefer you can participate with a binding that does not relate to nature.

We would love to see new bindings made for this exhibition, but this is not mandatory.

We ask that your bookbindings should not exceed 32,5 x 32,5 x 10 cm and not weigh more than 4 kg.

Exhibition, not competition

We want to encourage everyone to participate without the pressure of competing. But, as stated in our articles of association, one of the participants will be awarded the PA prize (150 €). The selection is made by the NBS exhibition committee, and they wish to give the award for outstanding craftsmanship.

Participation fee

Participation fee for members is 1000 SEK and student members 500 SEK. For non-members 1200 SEK and for student non-member 600 SEK. The fee covers the cost of returning postal costs, online exhibitions at the website and social media, marketing the exhibition and part of the organizing costs.

The registration for the exhibition is now officially closed.
