Exhibition Nordic Nature

Starts 23 April 2025 and will be displayed throughout the summer 2025.

There is a long tradition of Nordic Bookbinding exhibitions, which we hold in great honor and now wish to continue in a way suitable for the present day. The idea of this exhibition is to celebrate Nordic bookbinding and book arts: to encourage Nordic makers to present their work and to gain wide exposure to the art and craft of hand bound books in the Nordic countries.

The exhibition is organized by Nordic Bookbinding Society in collaboration with the Icelandic National and University Library.

There will be digital exhibition on a website where photos and 3D scans of the books will be available. The organizers of the exhibition reserve the right to take photographs of the exhibits and publish the photos on the web page of the exhibition and in the Press with the intention of informing the public and introducing the exhibition.

Participation is open to all Nordic binders and book artists, and members of NBS.

You are all warmly welcome! You don’t have to be a member if you consider yourself “Nordic”, but the participation fee is cheaper for members. Participants from other countries are also welcome, if they register as a member of the Nordic Bookbinding Society.

The name of the exhibition is “Nordic Nature”. The book or piece you select to exhibit is optional.

This means you can choose both the title and the author of the book freely or make the content yourself. We feel “Nordic Nature” is a wonderful subject to give us inspiration and it can be interpreted in many interesting ways. But, if you prefer you can participate with a binding that does not relate to nature.

We would love to see new bindings made for this exhibition, but this is not mandatory.

We ask that your bookbindings should not exceed 32,5 x 32,5 x 10 cm and not weigh more than 4 kg.

Exhibition, not competition

We want to encourage everyone to participate without the pressure of competing. But, as stated in our articles of association, one of the participants will be awarded the PA prize (150 €). The selection is made by the NBS exhibition committee, and they wish to give the award for outstanding craftsmanship.

Participation fee

Participation fee for members is 1000 SEK and student members 500 SEK. For non-members 1200 SEK and for student non-member 600 SEK. The fee covers the cost of returning postal costs, online exhibitions at the website and social media, marketing the exhibition and part of the organizing costs.
