The Nordic Bookbinding Society is now officially established!

The aim for the Nordic Bookbinding Society is strengthen collaboration between bookbinders and book artists in Nordic countries. The society will work to enhance, preserve and renew the craft, education and practice in contemporary culture to achieve a high professional standard. The association shall achieve this goal by:

  1. disseminating knowledge about educational opportunities within the bookbinding profession in the Nordic countries
  2. exhibiting bookbindings and artist books in the Nordic countries
  3. arranging workshops, seminars, lectures and conferences on bookbinding and artist books. Which are also open to non-members
  4. having an active website and send out newsletters about the Nordic Bookbinding Society’s work
  5. arranging a joint Nordic congress every three years or by decision of the Council

Meeting in Lund, Sweden 12.–14.4.2024

This meeting is open for all book enthusiasts. We hope to gather bookbinders and book artists from all Nordic countries (and elsewhere too) to meet each other.

In the program there will be an exhibition opening at the Einar Hansen’s Library (Nobelbokband arranged by Bokbindare-Gesällskapet), dinner together, visits to binderies and the exhibition Bokkultur at Kulturen in Lund.

We will gather for a show and tell — please bring a book / a project / technique you would like to share. We will hear about the next Nordic bookbinding exhibition and there will be discussions and brainstorming about future activities.

See you in Lund!

How to become a member

Membership

This society and its activities are aimed at all levels of bookbinders and book artists, whether professional, retired, students or amateurs. We also warmly welcome organisations and companies as well as supporting members and all kinds of book enthusiasts. To be a member you don’t have to live in a Nordic country.

A membership gives you the possibility to engage and take part in our work for bookbinding and artists’ books. We will also strive to encourage non-members to participate in our society’s activities. We are a non-profit membership-based society and dependent on support to achieve our goals.

If you would like to support a specific cause or initiative please let us know.

This year 50 SEK of the membership fee goes directly to the PA prize fund and it is included in these fees.

If you do not want to pay through our website: use following bank-account and then e-mail to info@nordicbookbindingsociety.com. Write your name, email and what you have paid for.

Committees

Committees will work to achieve the society’s goals: disseminating knowledge, bookbinding education and the next Nordic Bookbinding Exhibition. Committees plan their own activities and members can choose the amount of work and time they can and wish to spend. This is where the society’s exciting work happens! All future members who would like to be actively involved are warmly welcomed to join a committee in the field of their interest: Communication, Education or Exhibitions.

To join in please contact the contact persons of the committees by email:
